I’m a running newbie. My running sparked with my discovery of the Couch to 5K app. This app is awesome. I was able to go from walking to running 3 miles non-stop in 8 weeks. It helped me run my first 5K just 3 months after I started the app training.
I’m proud to say that I have inspired two friends to start running also. They both used the Couch to 5K app successfully and are able to run 3 miles continuously too.
Since I was able to achieve my 5K goal, I’ve decided to up the ante and train for a 10K. I’ve committed to continue training by registering for the Disneyland 10K, which will be on August 31st.
After my second 5K run on March 23rd, I’ve been a bit lax in my training. Since I’ve been increasing my mileage I literally ran into some shoe issues. For the past month or so I haven’t been able to run as much as I would have liked. I seem to hit a wall at 2 miles and have to start walking due to knee, leg and ankle pain. I recently exchanged my running shoes to provide better stability and knee support.
Today, I started the Couch to 10K app to aid in my training. In combination with my new shoes and the structured training, I was finally able to break through my 2 mile wall. I ran 3.37 miles! I must qualify that it was not continuous running because the app program instructs me to run a ten minute interval followed by a one minute walk interval and this is repeated four times. Regardless of the interval training, I was able to complete the entire routine. Thanks to my new shoes, my run was pain free.
