The end of the school year at Golden West College finished with the 2016 Design Show. Professor Greg Wight and his students put on a show at the end of every semester to showcase the students’ work and this year was no exception. The Design show showcased students’ work in the areas of; interior design, transportation design, toy design, industrial design, fashion design, furniture design, model making, rapid prototyping (RPT) and computer aided design (CAD), etc… The show showcased students’ 3D printed and Laser printing work as well. Some of the students even had the opportunity to learn basic welding techniques to make frames for furniture pieces.
Majority of the students tend to transfer to other schools to pursue degrees in:
- Bachelor of Arts in Design
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design
- Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design
Some students, usually the ones who already possess degrees, tend to pursue the Certificate of Achievement in Design. I fall in this category and after spending the last year taking the required courses for the certificate, I believe I have a good foundation in Design.
All in all the show was a great success. Many people who attended the show were able to see and feel what the students were able to take from conception to fabrication. I plan to continue to design and fabricate products in the hopes of selling to the masses. Here are some pictures from the show.
